Last week’s fatal Italian cruise accident could wipe out a good chunk of Carnival Corp & Plc’s 2012 profits, and the cruise operator could risk more long-term damage without a stronger public response to the crisis, Wall Street analysts and public relations experts said.

Before the ship Costa Concordia ran aground off Italy’s Tuscan coast with 4,200 passengers aboard, the cruise industry had been enjoying smooth sailing and a bright future.
