ComCom clears Expedia – Wotif travel agency merger

The Commerce Commission has cleared a merger of online travel agencies Expedia and Wotif.com Holdings after assessing concerns the tie-up would lead to increased commission rates. The antitrust regulator focused on whether the merger would make it easier for Expedia and Priceline to raise prices or reduce service quality as the only two major players in the market, it said in a statement yesterday.

TripAdvisor ‘Winning On Mobile,’ But Won’t Talk Monetization

Half of TripAdvisor’s traffic now comes from mobile, big news for a site that attracts 315 million monthly unique visitors. That shift has challenged many traditional publishers, but TripAdvisor said it has mobile monetization and user experience under control.

TripAdvisor misses 3Q profit forecasts

The company on Tuesday reported third-quarter net income of $54 million, or 37 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense and pretax expenses, were 48 cents per share.
