College students are in the midst of spring break, and families with school-aged kids are counting down till they can mingle with Mickey Mouse at Disney World, play multiple rounds of mini golf in Myrtle Beach or relax somewhere else where shorts and swimsuits are the attire of choice. Spring break is the unofficial start to the busy 2015 travel season, and nearly three-quarters of Americans are looking to take advantage of the start of the season with a trip, according to a recent survey by travel site Orbitz.com .

Orbitz cast wide net in search of acquisition partner

Chicago-based Orbitz Worldwide talked with more than a dozen companies about an acquisition before agreeing last month to sell itself to Expedia in a deal that, if completed, will reap a $20 million payday for its CEO, according to a regulatory filing Monday. Chicago-based Orbitz Worldwide has settled a lawsuit against a website that helps passengers find so-called hidden-city fares that exploit a loophole in the airfare system.
