Travelocity turns 20

But on March 12, Travelocity, which was one of the earliest online travel sites where consumers could buy airline tickets without using a travel agent, celebrated its 20th birthday. The company was founded as part of American Airlines’ parent company, AMR Corp. In 2000, Travelocity became a publicly-traded company after it merged with Preview Travel.

Belmond (BEL) – Investment Analysts’ Recent Ratings Changes

They now have an “overweight” rating on the stock. 2/29/2016 – Belmond was downgraded by analysts at Zacks Investment Research from a “buy” rating to a “hold” rating.

North Charleston, county settling hotel tax dispute with travel websites

The $3.5 million hotel tax settlement is being funded by: Expedia, $2,220,414; Priceline, $549,292; Orbitz, $392,083; and Travelocity, $347,083. The city of North Charleston and Charleston County stand to collect more than half of a seven-figure legal settlement with a long list of travel websites, most of them owned and operated by Expedia, Priceline, Travelocity and Orbitz.

Expedia Buys Rival Travelocity for $280 Million

Online travel agency Expedia Inc. has purchased competitor Travelocity from Sabre Corp. in a $280-million cash deal, the companies said Friday. Users of the service should not notice any change as a result of the purchase because Expedia has powered Travelocity’s websites under a 2013 marketing agreement.
