Cuban hotel becomes first to operate under U.S. brand

A large “Four Points by Sheraton” sign has gone up outside the Havana hotel that this week becomes the first in Cuba to operate under a U.S. brand since the 1959 revolution. The military-owned Gaviota 5th Avenue Hotel, close to the Caribbean seafront, is one of two hotels that Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide agreed to manage in a multimillion-dollar deal with Cuba in March.

Carnival Announces Ports of Call for Planned Cuba Cruise

Carnival’s proposed cruises to Cuba will include two colonial cities outside Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba, in addition to the Cuban capital, the cruise company said Wednesday. Carnival is working to finalize approval from the Cuban government for the planned seven-day trips from Miami on a ship from the new Carnival brand, Fathom.

Carnival raises quarterly dividend by 20%

Miami-based Carnival’s quarterly payout to shareholders will rise to 30 cents a share, an increase of a nickel a share, to yield 2.3%. The raised dividend is payable to shareholders as of Aug. 21. In a news release Thursday, Mr. Donald said the higher dividend reflects the company’s cash flow from operations approaching $4 billion this year.

Luxury cruise ships could soon be seen humming around Mobile Bay again, as political and economic tensions ease between the U.S. and Cuba. Alabama Tourism Department Director Lee Sentell pointed out that politics and logistics are enough reasoning to establish trips from Mobile to Havana, Cuba.

Delaware County won’t be getting romantic-themed hotel

The owner of an adults-only, romantic-themed hotel has backed out of a land contract to build another in Delaware County after he learned that he’d have to pay to extend a road through the property. “That was the downfall,” said John Kranjec, owner of Belamere Suites Hotel in Perrysburg, Ohio.
